His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, has appointed Rev. Fr. Obed Muriungi Karobia O.F.M Conventual as an Auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. The news of this appointment was made at the Holy Family Minor Basilica by His Excellency Archbishop Bert van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya during the 1pm Mass. Bishop elect Obed Muriungi was born in Meru, Kenya, on 29th June, 1979. He made his solemn profession on 10th October, 2010, and on 28th July 2012 he was ordained to the Priesthood in the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. He has served in various capacities including: - First Minister Provincial of the newly established Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya. - As a parish priest at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in South C, - Vocations Promoter for the Conventual Franciscan Friars in Kenya. He is the first Conventual Franciscan friar and missionary to be appointed a bishop in Kenya. We congratulate Monsignor Obed Muriungi on his new appointment!
